Key Laboratory
Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Translational Research and Therapy for Neuro-Psycho-Diseases

The Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Translational Research and Therapy for Neuro-Psycho-Diseases was authorized and established by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology in August, 2013. The key laboratory is affiliated with the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Neuroscience, and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University. The key laboratory is established based on the national and provincial key disciplines and provincial priority academic program in clinical medicine, pharmaceutics, organic chemistry, and radiation medicine.

The key laboratory has 30 full professors, 15 associate professors, and 16 lectures. Among them are recipients of Distinguished Young Scholars of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Thousand Youth Talent Program, special government allowances of the State Council, New Century Excellent Talents of Education Ministry, One Hundred Person Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Provincial Specially-Appointed Professors, Provincial Entrepreneurship and Innovation Talents, etc. The key laboratory also has one provincial innovation research team in natural pharmaceutics.

Research interests

The key laboratory mainly focuses on the following research areas:
1. Molecular mechanism elucidation, new drug target discovery and evaluation for major brain diseases
2. New drug discovery, screening, and evaluation targeting major brain diseases
3. Development of databases, biomarkers, and new technologies for early diagnosis and treatment of major brain diseases

Scientific Achievements

The members of the key laboratory have received more than 60 national- and provincial-wide grants. Among them are Major State Basic Research and Development Program (973 project), National High Technology Research and Development Program (863 project), National Major Scientific and Technological Special Project for “Significant New Drugs Development”, the State Key Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Natural Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Priority Academic Program Development of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions. The core members of the key laboratory have published more than 500 SCI papers in high-profile journals, such as Science, Nat. Biotechnol., Nat. Neurosci., J. Am. Chem. Soc., PNAS, Mol. Pharmacol., Autophagy, J. Neurosci., Blood, Oncogene, J. Control. Release, Cell Death Differ., Mol. Psychiatry, and J. Med. Chem. In the recent years, about 130 patent applications were submitted and 30 of them were granted.

The key laboratory has more than 3000 m2 area for basic and translational research.  It has established several technology platforms, including drug design, drug screening, and drug discovery for neuro-psycho-diseases, isotope tracing, animal behavior, drug metabolism, drug delivery, chemical biology, clinical imaging, neurological medicine, psychiatry, and radiology, etc. In addition, the key laboratory equipped state-of-the-art instruments, such as confocal microscopy, small animal imaging system, live cell imaging system, LC-MS, positron emission tomography, and functional magnetic resonance imaging.

The key laboratory is working to create a platform for academic and clinical exchange and collaboration with domestic and foreign research institutions. It has established substantial collaborative research programs with scientists from the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, etc. In addition, the key laboratory encourages collaboration with domestic scholars on open projects that are closely related to the research interests of the key laboratory.
