Pharmacy Students Gain Industry Experience in Suzhou

SUZHOU, China – In mid‑July, a four-day experiential learning program organized by the Suzhou Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (SIPI) gave 66 pharmacy students from seven leading Chinese universities an opportunity to explore pharmaceutical research, manufacturing and career development in Suzhou.

The inaugural Suzhou Program for University-Industry Training of Pharmacy Students brought together participants from Peking University, Tsinghua University, China Pharmaceutical University, Zhejiang University, Shandong University, Jinan University and Soochow University. Designed to bridge classroom learning and industry practice, the program introduced students to the skills and perspectives required in the rapidly evolving biomedical fields.

During the program, students visited several biopharmaceutical and medical technology companies in Suzhou. Scientists, engineers and industry leaders delivered on-site sessions in research laboratories and manufacturing facilities, covering intelligent continuous manufacturing, Good Manufacturing Practice systems, advanced medical device production and applications of artificial intelligence in drug development.

Students also discussed formulation development, the translation of new drug discoveries and career planning with industry professionals. The visits allowed participants to connect their university coursework with real-world research and production processes while gaining a clearer understanding of the interdisciplinary expertise expected of today’s pharmaceutical workforce.

Beyond the company visits, the program introduced students to Suzhou’s broader innovation ecosystem. Participants toured the Suzhou Industrial Park Planning Exhibition Hall, Wuzhong Life Bay and BioBAY to learn about the city’s biomedical industry and supporting infrastructure.

By connecting university education with industry practice, the program strengthened collaboration among universities, research institutes and companies while giving students a broader understanding of career and research opportunities.
