报告摘要

The capability of a natural product library generated by a powerful automated high- throughput system (HTS) was demonstrated by utilizing an in vitro bioassay against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 and K1 strains to identify active molecules that may be used for antimalarial drug discovery. The UPLC (ultra-performance liquid chromatography)-MS (mass spectrometry)-ELSD (evaporative light scanning detector)-PDA (photodiode array) data of the hits from complex natural product extracts afforded significant information on structures of molecules, allowing identification of known actives or directing us to isolate new molecules. In this research Bioassay-guided isolation work was conducted and structures of the isolated actives were elucidated in order to prove the validity of HTS fractionation methodology.  The research of active components from several antiparasitic and antimicrobial plants was also reported.

Dr. Jin Zhang was graduated from Shenyang Pharmaceutical University with a PhD. Degree on Chinese material medica. Then she joined Prof. Shilin Chen’s lab in the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development (IMPLAD) as a postdoctoral fellow in 2009. After one year, she started to work in University of Mississippi as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Ikhlas A. Khan and Dr. Ilias Muhammad’s team. Her work is focused on the bioassay-guided research of active components from antiparasitic and antimicrobial plants.  Now she is also involved in the anticancer screening work in Dr. David S. Pasco’s team.
