Peptides have gained increasing popularity in drug delivery because of their functional and chemical diversity. The multifunctional peptides not only enable the cell/tissue-specific homing, but also provide a microenvironment for drug encapsulation or the conjugate sites for covalently drug loading, all of which are essential in drug delivery. We designed some multifunctional peptides and hybrid peptides by precisely chemical engineering and utilized them for small chemical drugs or insulin delivery.
